Ikea witnessed huge response from customers yesterday as over 40,000 people visited Ikea’s first store in India in Hyderabad on the launch day. Thousands of customers rushed to Ikea showroom, resulting in bumper-to-bumper traffic and stampede like situation inside the store in the late evening.
The store was teeming with customers in the evening, which swelled to over 40,000 customers by the time store closed at 11 pm. About 10,000 customers had visited the store by 4 pm but the crowds swelled later as thousands of office goers headed to the shopping place while returning home from offices.
The social media was abuzz with pictures and videos of surging crowds jostling to get into the store and the Cyberabad police had to issue an traffic advisory for those going towards the store.

There was traffic jam situation in front of the huge 4 lakh sft store located in the heart of HITEC City, the hub of information technology.
“With a huge crowd from across the city thronging the store in the evening, the
IKEA staff found it a bit challenging to regulate the entry. There were also a few tense moments when some people tried breaking queues,” store manager John Achillea told IANS.
The 400,000 sq.ft store offers 7,500 products, including 1,000 products priced below Rs 200.
It also has a 1,000-seater restaurant, which is the biggest for
IKEA in its global network, offering Swedish and Indian cuisine.
IKEA plans to open the next store in Navi Mumbai in 2019, followed by Bengaluru and Delhi. In the next phase,
IKEA also plans to cover Ahmedabad, Surat, Pune, Chennai and Kolkata.
