The Indian cricket team might have got a day added to their schedule for the practice Test against Cricket Australia XI but Virat Kohli and Co’s plans to get themselves accustomed to the Australian wickets faced a snag as the rain came downpouring on Day 1 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. As the heavens made it difficult for the visitors to spend some time in the pitch, the players decided to hit the gym to spend the spare time in a productive manner.
Kohli and his men secured a 1-1 draw against Australia in the 3-match T20I series, with the first two matches of the contest being heavily impacted by rain. The result put an end to India’s 7-series winning streak in the shortest format and also devoid the players of the sort of game time they would have expected to undergo. With rain spoiling the opening Day of the practice Test against Cricket Australia XI, the weather Gods seem to have not eased up on the visitors yet.
With the toss delayed due to rain, Kohli and some of the members of the Indian team decided to spend time in the gym and work on their fitness. The Indian captain shared a selfie from the gym where Ishant Sharma and Murali Vijay were accompanying him. “The rain doesn’t seem to be going away so we decided to make something of our day. Gotta love a good workout with the boys. #makeeverydaycount”, tweeted Kohli before the first day concluded without a ball being bowled.
Ishant and Vijay, both were a part of the England tour in which India lost the Test series 4-1. While Vijay was dropped mid-series in preference of a young Prithvi Shaw, Ishant continued his good form and proved his credentials with the red ball again. While there’s still a dilemma over what sort of opening combination India would go for against Australia, Vijay, Shaw and KL Rahul would be vying for the 2 opening spots.
Here are the squads of both the teams for the one-off practice Test:
